Locating files in your File Manager

  1. Your first step begins with “logging into your Hosting’s cPanel”.

  2. Once you log in, go to the “File Manager” in the “Files” section.

  3. In the File Manager, locate the folder named “public_html” The files and folders of your website reside here. (Your current location is the root directory.)public_html folder
  4. When you click on the “public_html” folder, an interface consisting of the files and folders opens in the right side panel. To Edit a file, You need to Select the file whose content is to be edited.

Your File Manager supports 2 types of editors:

a. “Simple Text Editor” to edit simple text files. 

b. Feature-rich “HTML Editor” to edit HTML files.

The HTML Editor offers the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) functionality.

With this editor, you can edit documents in a WYSIWYG format. This editor is feature-rich, similar to a word-processing editor. Most users are accustomed to using this editor, where they get facilities like

★ Box to type their content.

★ Apply Text styles.

★ Font to choose from.

★ Apply Bold, italics, and underline to your text.

★ Write content as Bullet points and Numbered lists.

As you already have logged into your cPanel and are in your File Manager. 

  1. Select a plain text file that you wish to edit. Here, We are taking “websitecontent.html” as an example to Edit the file.

  2. Right-click on that file & select “Edit” from the drop-down menu.

  3. Specify the “character set encoding” for the selected file. The default is UTF-8 (Unicode). Be cautious while selecting the “encoding type”. An incorrect character set will render the file useless or corrupt it.

  4. After specifying the “Character Encoding” Click on the “Edit” Button. Now you will see the file’s content on a new page. Perform your Edits on this content.

  5. As you have modified the content within the file, it is mandatory to “Save” it for the modifications to take effect.

Want to Edit with HTML Editor?

Follow the Steps Below:

  1. Select an HTML file that you wish to edit. We are taking “websitecontent.html” as an example to Edit the file.

  2. Right-click on that file & select “HTML Edit” from the drop-down menu.select HTML edit on websitecontent.html

  5.  You will see the file’s content in a new feature-rich, visually appealing HTML Editor on a page. Perform your Edits on this content.

  6. Change the formatting, alter the colors, add bullets, highlight the text, and do more with this HTML editor. Apply Bold, italics, and underline to your text.

  7.  Once you have modified the HTML file’s content, it’s time to Save it. You will get to see the “Save button” in the toolbar.

For Viewing the File

You may need to view the file’s contents and not edit them in a few cases.  Considering you are already logged in to your cPanel and are in your File Manager, perform the following steps, 

  1. Select the file you want to view. We are taking “websitecontent.html” as an example to Edit the file.
